There are difficult questions of relations between Church and State, private ownership, medical ethics, just and unjust wars and so on. But in all honesty, such matters are undergoing continual debate within the Church as well as beyond. There is a vast literature on the application of Christian teaching presented by the Catholic Church to help its members spread Gospel principles throughout the fabric of contemporary society. We commend this to our readers and hope they will explore those aspects of modern society which are within their reach, or are of special or professional interest. As this lesson is very much about how we live together in society, we have chosen a Gospel meditation which makes an emphatic plea for us never to let bigotry blind us to human need.
